Cause
The Dust Bowl began with a drought in the Great Plains region of America in 1931. As a result of the drought, there was nothing but loose dirt on the ground and this was not enough to give plants any support for their root systems. When the wind started, there was no rain to pack the dirt down so it simply got blown around; creating The Dust Bowl that lasted for eight years.

Simple Acts Turn into Hardships
The Dust Bowl made simple, every day tasks very difficult to accomplish. Eating, walking, and breathing are all examples of some of the difficult activities. Farmers couldn't plant any crops for food, the wind was so strong it would blow people around as they tried to walk, and the amount of dust in the air made breathing without any sort of mask very dangerous.

Farms
The Dust Bowl affected a lot of farmers. With no solid soil and high winds, farmers were unable to plant crops. As a result, they were faced with the harsh reality of making no money to support their family. This caused the Dust Bowl helped lengthen the Great Depression.

End
The Dust Bowl finally came to an end in 1939 with the overdue arrival of rain. There was so much drifted dust on the ground that whole houses were almost completely buried. Over the next several years, the Depression ends and farmers and citizens all through the country were able to recover from the effects of the Dust Bowl.
